Gift A Hyatt Points Booking

This question has come up a few times in the ToP Facebook Group over the last few weeks, can you gift a Hyatt points booking? I shared a little while back how you can turn anyone's free night certificate into yours. Because of that option, I figured it was likely that you can do something similar with points too. This is assuming you don't have Hyatt Globalist status where you could just do a guest of honor booking for them.

So Who Is This For?

You may be thinking, why not just transfer / pool your World of Hyatt points with them? Well, not everyone wants to do that or mess with award programs etc. This is for the infrequent traveling family member, or friend, that doesn't want to mess with booking their own hotel with points. I know we all have several of those people in our lives!

Now, you may be thinking you can just book the room in your name and add them as a guest who can check in. That usually works domestically for the most part, even if it is technically against the terms, but your mileage may vary as always. I did have a run in with Gild Hall about it in NYC once. However, when you are talking about international travel things can get a bit harrier there. Even domestically, maybe you just don't trust them with your card on file. I know we all have some of those people in our life too!

To figure this out once and for all I reached out to the Hyatt Concierge team on Twitter, who are always super helpful. They came back with the following response.

Gift A Hyatt Points Booking

I was surprised to hear they can do the booking, as long as you have the proper timeframe, since they are not able to do award transfers with free night certificates. This option makes it easy if you want to skip calling the main line.

Gift A Hyatt Points Booking: ToP Thoughts

We have answered the question once and for all, yes you can gift a Hyatt points booking to other people. Going this route ensures you will not have any issues with your guest checking in without you. That can be comforting for the nervous traveler or important for international travel. Having said that, the best option is still to transfer points to them so at least someone gets the elite night credit.
