American Airlines Business Card Loyalty Points Promo
American Airlines just extended one of its most valuable promos for AAdvantage status chasers. Through this Loyalty Points offer, select Citi® / AAdvantage® Business credit cardholders can earn additional Loyalty Points through purchases made by their authorized users. The promo, which began back in January 2025 and was originally supposed to expire at the end of 2026, will now run through December 31, 2028. That means an extra two years to take advantage of this awesome opportunity. Let's dive into the details of the American Airlines business card Loyalty Points promo—and why it's such a big deal if you care about status.

How the Promo Works
Here are the details of the American Airlines business card Loyalty Points promo:
- Select primary cardholders of the Citi® / AAdvantage Business™ World Elite Mastercard® and other eligible Citi® / AAdvantage® small business credit cards can earn 1 additional Loyalty Point (LP) for every 1 LP earned by their authorized users on eligible purchases.
- Primary cardholders are not required to register. Eligible cardholders automatically qualify for the additional LPs when their authorized users make eligible purchases.
- American Airlines does recommend registering authorized users with their individual AAdvantage accounts to ensure they earn LPs, though.
- The promotion now runs through December 31, 2028, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
Because both the primary cardholder and authorized user earn Loyalty Points from the same eligible purchases, they can work toward status simultaneously. And if you have more than one authorized user, you'll earn on each AU's eligible purchases, too. Here's an example of how the earnings would break down:
| Cardholder | Loyalty Points Earned |
| Authorized User 1 | 10,000 |
| Authorized User 2 | 10,000 |
| Primary Cardholder's Bonus LPs | 20,000 |

Terms of the Promo
Here are some notable terms of the American Airlines business card Loyalty Points promo:
- The promotion is targeted and not transferable. Only select Citi / AAdvantage Business World Elite Mastercard and other eligible Citi / AAdvantage small business credit cardholders are eligible. (It appears to be widely targeted, though.)
- Additional LPs will post to the primary cardholder's personal AAdvantage account approximately 8-10 weeks after the corresponding LPs post to the authorized user's account.
- Purchases must be qualifying net purchases, minus returns, credits and adjustments. Balance transfers, cash advances, account fees, interest charges, money orders, foreign currency purchases, wire transfers, gambling-related transactions and other cash-equivalent transactions don't qualify.
- The credit card account must remain open, active and in good standing when the promotional LPs are awarded.
- American Airlines may deny or reverse promotional LPs in cases of fraudulent activity, including when a primary cardholder registers themselves as an authorized user.
- AA may modify, suspend or terminate the promo at any time without notice.

Why This Is So Valuable for Status Chasers
Unlike AAdvantage miles (which can be used to book award travel), Loyalty Points are the key to elite status. Achieving elite status can unlock perks like complimentary upgrades, priority boarding, checked bags and increased earnings of miles and LPs on eligible flights. You also get rewards once you reach different milestones. You can read more about AAdvantage status perks here.
There are lots of ways to earn LPs, including flying and earning redeemable miles on eligible American Airlines, oneworld and select partner flights; making purchases through the AAdvantage eshopping portal, AAdvantage Dining, SimplyMiles, AAdvantage Hotels and other partner programs; and eligible spending on American Airlines AAdvantage co-branded cards. The status qualification year runs from March 1 through the end of February of the following year. Current elite status qualification requirements are:
| AAdvantage Status | Loyalty Points (LPs) Required |
| AAdvantage Gold | 40,000 |
| AAdvantage Platinum | 75,000 |
| AAdvantage Platinum Pro | 125,000 |
| AAdvantage Executive Platinum | 200,000 |
The American Airlines business card Loyalty Points promo effectively doubles the status-qualifying value of eligible authorized user spending across the two accounts. That means both the primary cardholder and authorized user can work toward status with the same purchases. The authorized user earns LPs, while the primary cardholder receives a matching amount of LPs—all for the same spend. And the extension through 2028 means this can be a part of your AAdvantage status strategy across multiple qualification years.
