Alaska And Hawaiian Loyalty Program Merger Details

The new combined Alaska and Hawaiian loyalty program will be unveiled next month, along with the new name, Hawaiian Airlines announced in an email to members Thursday, although the exact date is still unknown. But nothing is changing with the two existing programs — Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan and Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles — right away. HawaiianMiles won't officially transition into the new program until October 1, 2025.

How This All Came About

Alaska finalized its merger with Hawaiian last September. Since then, the two airlines have been slowly working towards a single, combined loyalty program. Currently, you can earn and redeem Alaska miles on Hawaiian flights, and enjoy reciprocal benefits if you hold elite status with either airline. Thursday's announcement clarified a few more details about the new combined loyalty program and what HawaiianMiles members can expect. Here's what it means for your Hawaiian miles and status.

HawaiianMiles Will Integrate Into New Loyalty Program on Oct. 1

On October 1, 2025, HawaiianMiles will fully transition into the new combined loyalty program with Alaska. HawaiianMiles accounts will automatically transfer over to the new loyalty program on that date, along with any miles and elite status earned with Hawaiian. Hawaiian miles and status will retain their value in the new program, the airline said.

This is what else HawaiianMiles members can expect come Oct. 1:
  • Your Hawaiian miles will transfer to the new loyalty program at a 1:1 ratio
  • Miles will never expire
  • Your Hawaiian Airlines credit card benefits will continue in the combined program without interruption
  • You will continue to earn miles on Hawaiian and Alaska flights

None of these details about the new loyalty program are particularly surprising, given many of them were conditions for the Department of Transportation to approve the merger.

Hawaiian is warning members in advance that access to their HawaiianMiles accounts will be limited during the week leading up to Oct. 1, as the airline migrates accounts to the new loyalty program. More details regarding the transition will be announced in August, the airline said. It may be prudent to proactively move your miles over to the Alaska program before then to limit your potential interuptions.

What To Do Right Now

For now, you can still link your Alaska and Hawaiian accounts to transfer miles between the two airlines. When you link accounts, you'll also instantly match your Hawaiian Pualani Elite status to Alaska to enjoy the benefits of Alaska and corresponding Oneworld status.

This is the corresponding level of Alaska status you would match to based on your level of Hawaiian status (and vice versa):

  • HawaiianMiles Pualani Gold status: Alaska Mileage Plan MVP status (Oneworld Ruby)
  • HawaiianMiles Pualani Platinum status: Alaska Mileage Plan MVP Gold (Oneworld Sapphire)

Those with Alaska Mileage Plan MVP Gold 75K, or MVP Gold 100K status will also be matched to HawaiianMiles Pualani Platinum status.

If you choose not to link your accounts (or you don't have one), your Alaska and HawaiianMiles accounts will automatically transfer over to the new program on Oct. 1.
