Hyatt Check In Issues At MGM Properties
We have been hearing some rumblings over the past few days, since Sunday really, of Hyatt check in issues at MGM properties. That would be remote check ins to be precise. We all know that Hyatt and MGM are breaking up and Marriott Bonvoy is sliding into that warm bed. So it isn't a huge surprise that Hyatt would look to close some loopholes.

ToggleWhy This Matters
In a somewhat well known “secret” people have been using cheap stays at MGM properties in Vegas to earn Hyatt elite night credits. This is especially useful when the rooms are $20 or less at Excalibur or Luxor. You could even pair up comp stays with a paid night and earn elite night credits on the entire thing. We are talking about 4 or 5 elite night credits for less that the cost of a pizza.
The problem was that Vegas isn't easily accessible to everyone, in steps the remote check in. When MGM allowed remote check ins on their app, a few years ago, you could do all of a sudden do mattress runs from your home. You would need to call the MGM hotel's front desk after checking in to make sure your Hyatt account number was attached, but it was usually smooth sailing after the first stay. That allowed people to reach Globalist pretty inexpensively.
With the partnership coming to an end and cheap Globalist going bye-bye, outside of some status challenges, people probably wanted to get what they could on the way out the door. The problem is World of Hyatt, or MGM, ain't playing that game anymore.
Some Remote Check Ins Blocked
People that have a World of Hyatt number attached to their stay are not allowed to remote check in anymore. They are having to call the hotel to have their Hyatt number removed for remote check in to work. This would be required to avoid a no show charge. If you check in at the front desk then it is no problem. Some have still had it work okay but it is getting less likely by the day.
Hyatt Check In Issues At MGM Properties: ToP Thoughts
If you had plans to no-show mattress run a few stays before the end of Hyatt and MGMs partnership, you may want to cancel those rooms. Otherwise, you may be left scrambling when the remote check in doesn't work to remove your World of Hyatt number. Then you'll end up paying for a room you don't really want and now won't earn elite nights for.
A reminder that if you are actually in Vegas then this shouldn't be an issue for you. Let us know if you have run into problems in the ToP Facebook Group.
