Chase Sapphire Preferred Matching Offers
One of the hottest questions right now is whether or not Chase Sapphire Preferred matching offers are happening after the recent offer increase. If you signed up for the Sapphire Preferred when it was at the lower 60,000 point level you are probably filled with self loathing and regret that you missed out on the higher 80,000 point offer. The thought was that there would be a good chance of Chase matching recent applicants to the higher offer, as they have in the past. Just a few months back they were super generous matching to the all time high Ink card offers after all. They went back as far as 9 months in some cases. This time around though, they have been all over the place. I am not sure what has changed this time around but they have been noticeably more difficult matching the CSP 80K offer.

ToggleDoes Chase Match Welcome Offers?
Outside of peak covid Chase has always been really good about matching higher welcome offers for recent card applicants. Even late last year / early this year we saw them go back more than 3 months for some people and match offers. They are being more calculated this time around. Here are the recent data points I have seen.
Applicants That Were Approved For A CSP Match
Here are the data points I have for approvals:
- Applied for the card 10 days prior
- Had to send a second message with a link to the public offer
- Applied the day before for the offer via a personal referral
- Called in and approved 29 days after approval
- Approved about a month or so, already earned welcome offer
- Signed up in February and already earned the bonus, they added 20K the next day (non referral application)
- Approved in mid April
Applicants That Were Denied For A CSP Match
Here are the data points I have for denials:
- Denied via secure message with no other info
- Denied via SM with no other info
- Opened in February and denied late April
- Used a personal referral and was denied
- Used a personal referral in March and was denied
- Still within welcome offer window, was a personal referral
- Opened 1/28 and was denied
- Personal referral, no other detail
Reading The Tea Leaves
There seems to be some data points on both sides of issues but here are a few things I noticed collecting the data points.
- If you are within 3-4 weeks of signing up you have a pretty good shot of being approved
- A few outside of that time frame were approved too but most (all?) of the denials were outside that window
- It seems non personal referral sign ups had better luck
- Sending a link to the public offer with your request seems to help
- Some agents were confused about the in branch offer and targeted mailers (shocker, I know)
Chase Sapphire Preferred Matching Offers – ToP Thoughts
I am not sure if this answers the questions about Chase Sapphire Preferred matching offers to the new 80,000 point offer, but it gives us a little more insight. Chase seems to have a recency bias this time around, approving most everyone within the 30 day window. Outside of that your chances drop off quite a bit, especially if you used a personal referral. My guess is that maybe because of the referral points they paid out as well they are less willing to match?
I would still take the chance on getting matched even if I checked those two negative boxes. It should only take a few minutes via secure message and the juice is worth the squeeze. When you do send it be sure to send a link to the public offer to ensure the rep doesn't get confused on what you are asking. It seems to increase the approval odds as well.
