Stacking Bilt Rewards & Hyatt Promotions
A little earlier I gave you the details on the latest Bilt Rewards Rent Day promotion and it is a doozy. It gives you a shortcut to World of Hyatt Globalist status. Check out the post for the full details on this month's Rent Day promotions. The promotion is so good that I wanted to see if it was worth mattress running Hyatt Globalist status. Especially if you stacked it with the current Hyatt Bonus Journeys promotion. The two together could be something truly special. Let's take a look!
Table of Contents
ToggleUpdate 4/11/23: We have multiple reports in the ToP Facebook Group that people are starting to see their matched Explorist status on their World of Hyatt accounts. Some have received emails while others have not.
Bilt Rent Day Hyatt Globalist Challenge
First off, let's take a look at the Bilt Rewards portion of the promotion. You need to sign up for it in the Bilt Rewards app, no need to be a Bilt Rewards Mastercard cardholder, and then activate the promotion. This needs to be done by April 1st.
BILT X TRIAL WORLD OF HYATT STATUS ELITE STATUS
To Register:
- Bilt members must join the World of Hyatt loyalty program here if they don’t have an account already
- Link your Bilt Rewards and World of Hyatt accounts in the Bilt app under the “Travel” tab
- Between March 28 and April 1, choose “Unlock World of Hyatt Elite Status” on the Rent Day tab in the Bilt app
- Receive confirmation by April 17 of your World of Hyatt Explorist status and enjoy exclusive benefits for 90 days through July 16
- Complete 10 qualifying nights between April 17 and July 16 to keep Explorist status through February 2025, or complete 20 qualifying nights to earn Globalist status through February 2025
If you book 20 nights at Hyatt hotels over the 3 months you would get Hyatt Globalist status. That is 1/3 the normal cost of Hyatt Globalist status of 60 nights. You only have 3 months instead of 12 months to do it though.
World of Hyatt Bonus Journeys Promotion
What makes this really interesting is that there is a Hyatt Bonus Journeys promotion going on right now too. You can see all the details here and a breakdown of it here.
The skinny of it is you get 3,000 points back for every 2 nights of stays during the promotion (max of 45,000 points), from now until May 26th. You must activate the promo first. Remember that the first stay during the promotion period does not count.
Stacking Both Promotions For A Status Run
We have some overlap for the two promotions, and it is more than 20 days, so we can do the entire thing with a nice #doublestack. There is a secondary part of the Bonus Journeys promotion where cardholders can get an additional 500 points back in certain cities but I am going to ignore that for this exercise, since it is somewhat limited. But, if you live in one of the cities you may want to give it a look, especially Chicagoland people.
Crunching The Numbers
So we need 20 nights to hit Globalist status and the first night doesn't count towards the promotion. That leaves us 19 nights of promo stacking. With the promotion paying out every 2 nights it means the last night won't count either. That leaves us with 18 nights of promo stacking and 2 nights of regular cost stays.
Let's assume you book these nights at a category 1 Hyatt using points. Let's also assume the standard 5K per night room rate since nowhere has 20 days of off peak. If you find a few nights here and there then you can adjust the cost down a bit.
- 2 nights at 5,000 points a night to start and finish the promotion = 10,000 World of Hyatt points
- 18 nights at 5,000 points a night which are Bonus Journeys Eligible = 90,000 World of Hyatt points
- 9 Bonus Journeys promos triggered during the stays at 3,000 points per = -27,000 World of Hyatt points
- Total cost of Gloablist status = 73,000 World of Hyatt points.
Holy cow Batman, that is a pretty astonishing number to me. There are a couple of ways to look at the cost of this. If you value World of Hyatt points at around 1.5 cents each that means Globalist status would cost you $1,095. Not a small amount at all but I think many would think it is worth it, but more on that later. Another way to look at it is $12,600 in spend on your Chase Ink Cash at an office store.
Other Considerations
If you already have some stays planned during the promotion then you can adjust all of these numbers to match that. An example is if you have 4 nights booked you can take that out of the equation. Another thing to consider is cheap cash stays at places like Vegas etc. where you can rack up nights for less than the $52.50 it costs with points.
NOT. SO. FAST.
Before you get all aboard this hype train it is time to talk caveats. This is a pretty great deal in my opinion but it isn't for everyone. First off, if you already have Globalist status for the year, because you earned it last year, this is only an extension of 12 months. That makes it way less appealing to you, especially if you normally hit the 60 night requirement as is.
If you are like me, and don't have Globalist status right now, then this becomes more enticing. That is because you would earn it for the rest of this year, the following year and a few months in 2025. That gives you a lot longer to recoup the $945 cost. Having said that, it still doesn't mean it is for everyone.
If you normally stay at non full service properties, like Hyatt Place or Hyatt House, or aren't much of a breakfast person, then you will miss out on a lot of the value from Globalist status. Let's assume each stay at a full service property is worth $50 in savings from your Globalist status. That would mean your breakeven is 22 stays where you take advantage of your status over the next 2 years. That is probably plausible for many, but not for everyone. Remember it is 22 full service properties and not just 22 nights too. Staying at a Hyatt Place or House is not going to bring you $50 in value. So look at your travel patterns and where you stay before deciding whether or not chasing this status is worth it. You should also plug in your own numbers here on what you value the perks at for stays at full service properties.
Stacking Bilt Rewards & Hyatt Promotions: ToP Thoughts
I think I am going to give this a go but I am going to chew on it a bit more before I go all in. I'll sign up for the Bilt Rewards promo for sure and have that all ready. I may be becoming very friendly with my local Hyatt Place people very soon. And I guess swimmers ear could be in my kids future too!
Remember to evaluate this for you. If you are not staying at 20-30 Hyatt hotels a year already then this promo probably won't make sense for you. That is true no matter how good of a deal it is. As with all things, this deal is only useful if you can use it. Don't fall into the miles and points FOMO trap.
