Hyatt Studios, New World Of Hyatt Hotel Brand

Some interesting news came out of World of Hyatt today, they are planning on launching a new hotel brand called Hyatt Studios. It is always to see what new concepts hotel brands come up with and it gives us an idea on where the trends are heading. Over the years we have seen a push into the lower end market chasing the younger demographic. A shift towards co-mingle spaces, affordable prices and creature comforts of home. I am sure expanding work from home opportunities is driving this as well. It appears that the Hyatt Studios brand is chasing a little bit of that, but it also feels very similar to another Hyatt brand, Hyatt House.

The newest addition to the World of Hyatt portfolio also looks very similar to the Home2 Suites Hilton property that I stayed in this past weekend. A bed with a pull out couch for lounging / additional guests. Then a fridge, microwave and dishwasher in the mini kitchen area plus a little work area in your room. Per usual Hyatt standards it looks to be a step above their competitors in terms of finish and design though.

Hyatt Studios

Details On The Hyatt Studios Brand

Here are some interesting tid-bits from their press release:

The brand, which marks Hyatt’s entry into upper-midscale lodging in the Americas, was conceived through direct collaboration with hotel developers and listening closely to the needs of target guests. The announcement is supported by signed letters of interest in development agreements from multiple developers for more than 100 Hyatt Studios hotels, with construction expected to begin in 2023 and the first hotel expected to open in 2024.

“We are proud to launch the Hyatt Studios brand and bring the high-quality experience and level of care promised by the Hyatt brand to smaller markets and submarkets where we don’t have Hyatt hotels,” said Jim Chu, chief growth officer, Hyatt.

The Hyatt Studios brand will join the Hyatt Place, Hyatt House and Caption by Hyatt brands in the select service category, offering Hyatt’s signature guest experience with self-serve amenities and in-room offerings. Extended-stay guests can expect everything they need to feel comfortable and live their full lives when away from home, while enjoying the consistent Hyatt quality they expect.

Notes On Each Area Of The Properties

Here is a breakdown from the press packet on each of the areas for the Hyatt Studios locations:

Hyatt Studios
Lobby:

The Hyatt Studios lobby will feature a complimentary grab-and-go breakfast and a best-in-class, 24-hour market with a wide variety of options to satisfy extended-stay guests – from health-conscious snacks and ready-made meals to sweet and savory staples to fulfill your travel cravings.

Guestroom:

Hyatt Studios guestrooms will marry form with function and offer suites with kitchen amenities to provide comfort during extended trips away from home. The king guestroom plan provides a spacious 339 square-feet of comfort, and all guestroom kitchens will feature a multi-function convection microwave.

Hyatt Studios: ToP Thoughts

I was excited when I saw the email for a new World of Hyatt brand. Then when I was initially reading the release I figured this was the Hyatt Place / Hyatt House to expand overseas and in Europe. It appears I was wrong on all accounts. These seem to be focused on serving the more rural areas in the Americas.

One thing that tends to drive me nuts is hotels adding new brands when they don't really seem necessary. Everything about the Hyatt Studios branding and images screams Hyatt House to me. So why not just build off that brand? Maybe these new properties will come at a lower price point to build or easier to retrofit competing hotels? Those are the only reasons I can come up with at least.

Either way I am all for more Hyatt hotel options, especially in underserved areas that are dominated by Marriott, Hilton and IHG. Plus, a new brand is always good for our brand explorer perk counts!
