The hotel sits on M Street NW in the West End part of DC, a few blocks away from Georgetown. This Hyatt Place is convenient for travelers looking to stay near Georgetown or close to Foggy Bottom, including George Washington University. With this in mind, folks should be mindful of booking prices any time close to move-in weekend or graduation (not just for GW but also for Georgetown University).
For public transit, the Foggy Bottom Metro stop on the orange, blue, and silver lines is a couple of blocks away. Visitors can take the blue line to Regan National Airport (DCA) and the silver line all the way to Washington Dulles Airport (IAD).
Hyatt Place Washington DC/Georgetown/West End: Booking Cost
The Hyatt Place Washington DC/Georgetown/West End is a Category 4 property in the World of Hyatt program. Like many other Hyatt properties in DC, this hotel went up a category in March 2024. Here are the award costs for a standard room:
- 12,000 points off-peak
- 15,000 points standard
- 18,000 points peak
Cash prices vary widely and I often find this hotel to be on the more expensive side for a Hyatt Place. Don't be surprised if you find comparable cash rates for the Park Hyatt nearby. As always, to determine whether you're better off paying cash or redeeming points, make sure to calculate the cents per point value for any potential redemption.
Hyatt Place Washington DC/Georgetown/West End: Rooms
Rooms here have the classic Hyatt Place layout. All rooms include a sofa bed and have either two queen beds or king bed. The Hyatt Place Washington DC/Georgetown/West End does not have any suites.
This Hyatt Place opened in 2016 and is looking much better than expected for its age. I noticed minimal signs of wear and tear in my room and throughout the property, with the exception of the elevators, which show some big scrapes. Management clearly puts an the effort to maintain this property, which cannot be said for another Hyatt Place in DC.
I was pleasantly surprised by how well the room was kept given the age of the hotel. My guess is that this hotel does not see as much foot traffic as other Hyatt properties in DC due to its niche location. Whenever I need to book a stay in DC (which is often), this property has rooms available even when most other Hyatt options are sold out.
Property/Amenities
The hotel's large lobby offers plenty of seating across different areas. I found the lobby bar to be the nicest among the city's Hyatt Place properties. The hotel also offers a business center directly across from the check-in desk. Laundry machines are available on the 9th floor.
The breakfast is what we have come to expect of the Hyatt Place brand, with scrambled eggs, sausage patties, fruit, yogurt, sliced bread, etc. They also had egg frittatas.
This Hyatt Place features an indoor lap pool which looks quite nice. The pool is next to the gym in one of the basement levels.
The gym is bigger than it appears, but is too crowded with elliptical machines. Getting rid of one or even two of these machines and adding a second workout bench would be a welcomed change. Yet the gym appears well-maintained and has adequate equipment to get a workout in while on the road.
Overall, staff is quite friendly and quick to thank elite members for their loyalty.
Hyatt Place Washington DC/Georgetown/West End Review: ToP Thoughts
The Hyatt Place Washington DC/Georgetown/West End is a legitimate option for travelers near Georgetown or Foggy Bottom in DC. The property's condition belies its age given the excellent condition of the rooms and common areas. As a category 4 property, this hotel can be a great use of a category 4 free night certificate since cash prices can run quite high on occasion.
