Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal Review

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is the ultimate in luxury Los Cabos resorts. Enter via Mexico’s only privately-owned tunnel. The room has thoughtful touches like a bottle of Clase Azul Reposado tequila to start your stay. Relax in your private getaway with spacious villas, casitas, or private homes, each with a private plunge pool and ocean views to calm you. Our Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal review covers more than one visit to this gem in Mexico, as it is a ToP favorite which will have you wanting to go back just like many of us.

Location

Waldorf Astoria is located about 45 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport. You can arrange private transportation, where prices will vary. The price becomes easier with more travelers, with many offering one price for up to a certain number of passengers. Many of the Travel on Points(s) team has used Cabo Airport Shuttle. The service was great and easy to book. Uber now does operate at the airport with a bit of a catch. Uber can be a great option once at the resort too with low prices to get around.

For a couple of my trips, I rented a car as well. You must purchase mandatory liability insurance in Mexico, regardless of the credit card or coverage you have. I chose Cactus Rent a Car for my two visits, based on its positive reviews and frequent recommendations on popular online forums. They offered a flat rate per day and included insurance, so no surprise fees at car pick up. No matter your transportation choice, once you are at the resort, there are many dining options within a close and safe walking distance of the resort.

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal Review: Typical Booking Cost

The Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal resort is a sought-after property in the points and miles community. It can also be hard to book if you are not aware of the award release tendencies. The lowest standard award price is 120,000 Hilton Honors Points. This is the same price you will need if you wish to use any Hilton free night certificates. Outside of that, because Hilton has dynamic pricing, meaning point rates will vary with cash rates. You may see points prices exceed one million points and cash rates rarely drop below $1100 per night.

Hilton Flexible calendar

As the date approaches, they release large amounts of award space despite the varying availability and difficulty. I have often booked within a month or even the week of my stay. If you do not see your dates, do not give up and search frequently. I recommend using Hilton's flexible date calendar search to find availability.

Check In

Upon arrival, valet staff will whisk away your bags. While you are checked in, you will be given a welcome beverage. This is done in an open air entry way with beautiful ocean views. You will be provided orientation of the property and your benefits if you have status. Once checked in, you will be taken to your room which can via golf cart depending where on the property you are.

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal Review: Rooms

Our review covers multiple rooms and locations. I have found that everyone seems to have a preference, although I do not request a specific location at this point. All rooms include views and have a private plunge pool. Some rooms can be long walks, but staff will pick you up and drop you off via a golf cart if needed.

The standard rooms are large and spacious at just over 850 sq. feet. The entrances usually feature a long hallway into the main bedroom area. The first thing that may catch your eye is the plunge pool directly outside on your patio.

The Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal beds are comfortable and turn down service is provided unless you have your do not disturb on.

The bathroom area is a large open space with an odd sitting area next to the tall open shower. The double sinks are always a favorite of mine.

There is also a large soaking tub as well as well. While some may not like this set up, it does feel luxurious and the wide open space makes the room feel larger.

The refrigerator is stalked and replenished daily with beverages which are complimentary. You also receive a daily complimentary happy hour delivery of chips and guacamole plus a couple cold beverages. You typically can choose between beer or margaritas and they always brought two even when I was solo.

Property/Amenities

Pools

If you decide you want something more than your private plunge pool, you have a few options at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal. There is a main adult pool, a family pool, and a kids pool. Additionally, the spa has a small pool as well for those that are utilizing the spa services.

The poolside service was amazing. From the moment you arrive, you are greeted by friendly, helpful staff. They get you set up with chairs and will even adjust your umbrella throughout the day for optimal shade. Water is restocked and brought out at no charge and towels replenished. The service really stood out to me compared to other resorts and hotels I have visited. This alone makes it worth putting a pool day on your agenda.

Dining

The Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal resort offers a few different dining options, albeit limited. Prices on property will have taxes and gratuity added for everything. Keep in mind these taxes are for this entire region so plan ahead budget wise. This means between the two it is well over 30% combined. Plenty of options in close, approximately, if you choose to try some offsite dining.

Breakfast

Breakfast at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is available at Don Manuel's. Diamond members receive a complimentary continental breakfast. You can choose to upgrade to the full breakfast buffet for $20 and this has increased every year I have been. It does comes across as a nickel and dime tactic towards status holders in my opinion. That being said I will say the breakfast buffet is worth trying one day. It is extensive with a wide variety of fantastic options that may keep you filled up throughout the day. Many three night blocks go for over $6,000 and they are worried about a few dollars at breakfast? This might be one of the rare negatives I can come up with though during a stay.

Lunch

For lunch, I often dine poolside. You have two options which include Crudo, the raw bar area offers a selection of sushi, oysters, and other items. They also have traditional items available from the main kitchen including tacos, sandwiches, and my favorite, some melted cheese with chorizo. You can share many of the main items for a light lunch, as they are large enough for and will result in savings if desired. This is in addition to staff bringing complimentary samples to you throughout the day that have included fresh seafood tasting and a beverage of the day. Don Manuel's is also available for lunch.

Dinner

For dinner, you have two options. Once again, Don Manuel's is available. I had exceptional meals with superior food and service. The only time it lacked was post dinner, as I have had extensive waits to get my bill. This will be a common theme throughout the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, as it is more of the pace of life here in general.

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos El Farallon

I have also been able to dine at the much talked about El Farallon. The reservation site described it best: tucked into the cliffs of the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal and stocked daily with bounty from local fishermen, El Farallon is the most sought-after dinner location in Los Cabos. The restaurant’s name means “a rock that comes out of the ocean.” Opinions will vary on this dining experience, but I enjoyed it and would dine again. Many prefer Don Manuel's, but I recommend trying El Farallon once during your stay.

Other

For coffee lovers, there is a coffee shop as well. While these prices put Starbucks to shame, the service and coffee is great. There are a variety of bar areas as well. The website makes it look as if there are several separate areas, however many are right next to each other or part of another dining area like Don Manuel's. The drinks, while expensive are fantastic. The view from the Agave study bar near check-in can be a great way to relax for a nightcap. You will find a spa and gym onsite. The spa runs specials at times, so if you're looking for a luxury spa experience, it's worth checking there. It also gets access to smaller, more private pool area as well.

Elite Perks & Status Recognition

As a Diamond member, I have received upgrades here, as have many travel On Point(s) Facebook members. That can be to a variety of other room types that may be more spacious. You will also receive a complimentary continental breakfast. Finally, a 1,000 Hilton points and an option for possible late check out upon request. If you are over 5/24, the Hilton Aspire comes with automatic diamond status.
