We like to make jokes about American Express and their coupon book set up for their card perks. It is a well deserved joke, and nothing proves that more than their recent American Express Gold Card refresh. As they usually do, Amex raised the annual fee and added some more card coupons to justify it. One such new perk, or coupon, is the $7 Amex Gold Dunkin' Donuts credit a month. Luckily there is an easy way to maximize this one each and every month, even if there isn't a Dunkin' Donuts within a thousand miles of you!

What Is The American Express Dunkin' Donuts Credit?

After recently grabbing an Amex Gold card, thanks to a 100K no lifetime language offer, I finally had a chance to dive into the Dunkin' credit a bit. Before I go over best uses of the credit, we should discuss exactly what you get from Dunkin' with your Amex Gold card.

Each month you can earn up to $7 in statement credits when Dunkin' charges are billed to your card. That is up to $84 in credits each and every year. Enrollment is required for this perk, so be sure to activate that a day or two before you get rolling with all of this. You can find the activation on your card's benefits page when logged into your American Express account.

Once you activate the Dunkin' Donuts credit card perk it should automatically credit your first $7 in purchases each month. It usually takes a few days for the credit to post to your account.

How To Easily Use Your $7 Monthly Credit

Maybe your life really does run on Dunkin' and this credit is the best thing since sliced bread for you, but for everyone else, this is how you do it. The easiest way to use your $7 Amex Dunkin' Donuts credit each month is to do an app load. That way you lock in the savings, and then can use it whenever you are ready. This is especially noteworthy for anyone that lives in an area where there are no Dunkin' Donuts locations. This lets you use it later on down the road when traveling in an area, or airport, that has a Dunkin' location. This way you don't miss out months that you are nowhere near a restaurant.

Here are the step by step instructions for loading your Dunkin' Donuts app for your $7 Amex Gold monthly credit:

Step 1: Add Your Credit Card

The first thing you need to do to use your Dunkin' monthly credit is add your Amex Gold card as a payment option to your Dunkin' Donuts account. I did this on the website but you can do it in app too.

Step 2: Other Payments

Next up you will want to select other payments and Add A Credit / Debit Card.

Step 3: Create A New Dunkin' Card (If You Don't Have One Already)

I am in the app now. You will want to go back to the Add / Manage Card screen and select Dunkin' Cards. If you don't already have a card set up select no, pick your design and then Next.

Step 4: Add Funds

You will once again go back to the Add / Manage Cards screen and you should now be able to click the Add Funds button on the Dunkin' card you just created. This is also how you will do all future loads in the following months to trigger the $7 Amex Gold monthly Dunkin' Donuts credit.

Step 5: Load Your Card With $7

On the next screen you will select the amount you want to load and then select your American Express Gold Card. You will need to enter your 4 digit security code so have your Amex Gold card handy, or remember the code on the front of your card. You can load more than $7 if you frequent Dunkin' Donuts, but only the $7 will be credited.

Step 6: Check For Your Statement Credit

The last step is to make sure that your credit posts properly. It took 2 or 3 days for my credit to post (even if it shows as the same date of the charge).

While I am annoyed by the continued need to jump through hoops each and every month to maximize my American Express cards, I am glad that the Amex Gold Dunkin' Donuts credit is easy to maximize. As long as you remember to load the Dunkin' app every month you should be able to maximize this one for $84 every year. You can then use the balance in your Dunkin' account when it is convenient. No missed months, or months spent stressing about using this perk!
