Chase Sapphire Reserve Priority Pass Restaurant

I have some bad news to share with you all. In the latest round of credit card statements that went out cardholders were informed that the Chase Sapphire Reserve Priority Pass restaurant access will be no longer. Chase took a page out of the great Seinfeld book and said, no soup for you! We saw a few different reports of this in the ToP Facebook Group today. After figuring out what was going on, it appears that this notice is only on statements cut on 3/26 or 3/27 so far. They should be hitting everyone's next statement from here on out.

The other bad news is that the popular Ritz Carlton card is be caught up in this as well. We have confirmed with reports on recent statements in the group.

What Is Changing?

Here is what the statement had to say about Chase Sapphire Reserve Priority Pass restaurant access going away:

As of July 1, 2024 you will no longer have access to restaurants, cafes, and markets participating in the Priority Pass Select network as part of the Priority Pass Select Benefit associated with your Card. Access to Priority Pass Select’s network of lounges and other select airport experiences is not impacted by this update.

I would have to imagine that anyone who recently signed up for the Sapphire Reserve would get access at least until their first year is up. That is because it was a part of the terms when they applied. We will have to wait and see how that plays out though.

We now need more Sapphire Lounge options stat!

What Options Are Left?

Even though the Chase Sapphire Reserve Priority Pass restaurant access isn't the first to go (hi Amex Platinum and Capital One Venture X) it is a big hit to people. The good news is there are still some options holding on, assuming that Priority Pass restaurant access is important to you.

ToP was the one to break what is now the absolute best card for Priority Pass restaurant access, the Bank of America Premium Rewards Elite card. While that is my favorite option, because of the unique Priority Pass rules, it is not the only restaurant option. The Venture X Business still allows restaurant access, even if the personal Venture X card doesn't. You can also get your soup on with the UBS Visa Infinite card, which used to be a much more compelling option.

Chase Sapphire Reserve Priority Pass Restaurant: ToP Thoughts

While the Sapphire Reserve losing Priority Pass restaurant access is a devaluation for sure, how big of one will depend on you. If your home airport has a Priority Pass restaurant then this will be a big buzz kill to you (literally without the free beers!). The same could be said if you transit through an airport often that has one. If neither of those things are true for you then maybe this hits home a little less. It still removes options for cardholders overall, which is never a good thing.

If the Priority Pass restaurant access is super important to you then hopefully you have a card listed above to fall back on. Let us know what you think about this Chase Sapphire Reserve devaluation over in the ToP Facebook Group.
