Marriott & Aeroplan Partnership

The Marriott & Aeroplan partnership is expanding. It will now offer elite members from each program a chance to get matched status into the other program. I know that people love their free status more than anything so I figured people would enjoy this one. The status offered doesn't offer overwhelming value, but let's take a look at all the details.

Marriott & Aeroplan Status Match Details

If you have elite status in the Marriott Bonvoy or Aeroplan programs you will now be able to pick up some status in the partner program. Let's take a look at it from each program's perspective. You must link your accounts to take advantage of this new offer.

If You Have Marriott Bonvoy Elite Status Already

Here is what it looks like if you are a current Marriott Bonvoy elite member:

Here is what it looks like if you are a current Aeroplan elite member:

All Aeroplan elites can transfer miles to Marriott Bonvoy points at a 1 to 1 rate. This is normally not going to be a good idea unless the hotel booking is bringing you 1.5 – 2 cents per point for the booking.

What Do These Status Levels Offer

If you are eligible for the Aeroplan 25K status you will get some earlier boarding perks and line cutting type of access. Nothing major in the ways of in flight perks for Star Alliance flights though. You will have a chance at upgrades when flying Air Canada metal though.

If you are eligible for Marriott Bonvoy Gold status, and don't already have it from a credit card, then you will get a few perks out of the status. Most notably are the bonus points earning on cash stays and a 2PM late check out perks. Not the sexiest of things, but it is something.

Marriott & Aeroplan Partnership: ToP Thoughts

This expansion of the Marriott & Aeroplan partnership offers the chance at getting some low tier status in each program. While the status levels don't offer a ton in the ways of outsized value, they do offer a potential at some upgrades, some late checkout and early boarding perks, plus the ability to earn points at a higher right. It isn't much, but it is better than a poke in the eye I guess.
