There is a new American Airlines status match offer that targets some Delta and United flyers. I think Delta elites may be a little more interested in this with their recent “re-enhancements”. I would say this American Airlines status match offer would be another airline taking a shot at Delta (oh, hey JetBlue), but the fact they threw United in there too makes it a little more interesting.

How to keep your matched status

Meet the Loyalty Point goals every 4 months to continue enjoying AAdvantage^® status and move on to the next phase. Once you meet all 3 goals, you’ll qualify for status for the rest of the membership year.

Delta Status Holders

The following Delta status levels will be matched:

• To be considered for a status match via the American Airlines Instant Status Pass^™ promotion, please complete the linked form. If approved, the member will automatically be registered for the Instant Status Pass^™ promotion and enjoy 4 months of status with American Airlines while meeting a Loyalty Point goal every 4 months to keep status and move on to the next phase.

American Airlines Instant Status Pass Offer: ToP Thoughts

This American Airlines status match offer is pretty nice offer for top tier elites with Delta and United. Even if you don't plan on making a loyalty change I would consider doing it if you have any upcoming American Airlines flights. The four free months of status could offer you some decent perks on your flights at least. The only drawback is you would be ineligible for something like this in the future for a few years likely. You would have to weigh that, plus consider what your future status with Delta and United would be like, before fully diving in. Maybe you will never have a high enough level with Delta again to take them up on this anyway, which seems likely for many.

If you had considered making a loyalty change already then this could be serendipitist timing. Especially if you have an American Airlines credit card already, and are locked and loaded to rack up some loyalty points.
