Transfer Marriott Points To Starbucks

Partnerships are what makes the travel world go round, at least when it comes to award travel. Over the last several years hotel, bank and airline brands have been branching outside of the travel norms with their partnerships though. These more random pairings offer unique opportunities to earn and redeem points, although not at always the best rates. Speaking of super unexcepted partnerships, in walks Marriott Bonvoy and Starbucks, who just announce that you can now transfer Marriott points to Starbucks Star points. Uh, what? Exactly! Even though it may seem strange, it is an opportunity for some easy points if nothing else. And, to be honest, the transfer rates are not as bad as I would have thought value wise either. Maybe it is time to say hello to your stranded Bonvoy points once again.

How To Turn Marriott Bonvoy Points Into Starbucks Stars

Once you link your Marriott and Starbucks accounts you can then transfer Marriott points to Starbucks Stars (transfer landing page). There is no doubt that the ratio seems bad at first glance:

  • Transfer 10 Marriott Bonvoy points to 1 Starbucks Stars point

While 10 to 1 seems steep, we at ToP know better than to judge a point by its cover. Not all points are created equal after all, and Starbucks Stars are pretty valuable. As with most things, the true value comes down to how you redeem them. After some poking around it looks like you should be able to get in the 5 to 6 cents per point range.

The best option for your Starbucks Stars is to redeem them for the largest sized drink with all of the add ons you want. That is because it is the same redemption no matter the size or extras of the type of drink.

I value Marriott Bonvoy points at around $0.007 each, which means 10 points are worth about 7 cents. That falls slightly below what you would get for that 1 Starbucks Stars point, but it isn't far off. If you like Starbucks, and have a small stash of Marriott Bonvoy points in your account, then this could be a way to get some value for them.

An Easy 1,000 Points, Or Should I Say … A Free Coffee

To kick off this new partnership, and being able to transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to Starbucks Stars points, they are offering a one time bonus for linking your accounts. There is no need to actually make a transfer, so this essentially is getting paid 1,000 Bonvoy points for a few clicks.

Even if you loathe Marriott, and have almost no points in your account like me, you could transfer these 1,000 points to Starbucks for 100 Stars points. That is enough for a brewed hot or iced coffee or tea, bakery item, packaged snack and more. I think that is worth a minute of your time!

Transfer Marriott Points To Starbucks: ToP Thoughts

While being able to transfer Marriott points to Starbucks doesn't offer ground shaking value, it does give us another option. An option that I am sure people with a few thousand Bonvoy points chilling (iced coffeeing?) in their account will happily take. Even if you don't care about Starbucks at all, I would link your accounts for that quick and easy 1,000 point bonus.
