Best Ever Freedom Unlimited Bonus

We were alerted to the fact that the best ever Freedom Unlimited bonus was ending soon. Unfortunately, we were not given an exact date and time like we were with the all time high offers ending on the Ink Unlimited and Ink Cash. Back to the Freedom Unlimited card though, I have been kind of in awe of this offer since launch. It is one of the few truly unlimited offers we have seen. The only thing I can remember being similar is the Discover double everything offer. That one isn't this though, because the Freedom Unlimited card can earn Ultimate Rewards and not just cash back. It also has bonus earning opportunities, which the Discover doesn't really offer (outside of their 5% rotating categories on one card).

This Article Is Version 2.0

Because of how valuable the Freedom Unlimited offer could be, in theory at least, I was trying to think about who this offer was best suited for. I was also trying to figure out a way to show how powerful it could be. That is when I had a great idea, I'll show what a family of four could get putting just their average monthly spend on the card for a year.

I broke it all down, started to do the mathing and got to writing it all out. When I got to the end though, it just wasn't overly impressive. Someone could do way better just grabbing one or two welcome offers from other cards instead really. That is because this offer is great, but in more niche instances than I initially thought. So, I figured I would be better served pointing out some of those scenarios instead.

Who Is The Double Bonus Points Freedom Unlimited Offer Best For?

I came up with a couple of different potential opportunities where the Freedom Unlimited card could make sense for you.

Dining On The Company Dime

The Freedom Unlimited earns 3x on dining with the card. That is one of the best earning rates for a no annual fee card in the category. That is especially true if you unlock the points with a Sapphire Preferred and they become transferrable Ultimate Rewards. That 3x is even the same rate you earn with the premium Sapphire Reserve, which makes no sense to me honestly. It is comparable to the 4x you can earn with the much more expensive Amex Gold and so on.

Now you throw in the doubling of the points at the end of the year and that is like earning 6x on that spend. For a normal person that might only amount to 25,000 – 35,000 points after a year. But, what about a road warrior that is reimbursed for company meals? Earning 6x on all of that spend for a year is tough to beat. We could be talking 200,000 – 300,000 points when it is all said and done if you have the right per diem.

Best Ever Freedom Unlimited Bonus
Expensive Drugs

The other area the Freedom Unlimited can shine is its 3x earning on pharmacy spend. If you happen to be saddled with an expensive monthly drug prescription this could be a good option. Especially if you have an insurance set up where you pay up front for the drugs and are reimbursed after the fact. My wife had one such plan in the past, oh how I miss it! Or, if you have a large FSA and HSA account balance and much of that is used at CVS or Rite Aid etc.

Home Shopping Soon

If you are planning on buying a new house then this offer could make sense. You will need to keep your credit report clean for several months, or more depending on the process. This could be a way that you get to still be in on the welcome offer fun while not making a mess of your credit report. A you get your cake and get to eat it too of sorts scenario.

Slowing Down For The Year

Maybe life is a bit hectic right now and your 2024 goal was to slow everything down a bit. You may need a bit of a break from the miles & points crazy, and all the tracking that comes with it. If that is you, then this offer could be a way to keep your toe in the water while still keeping in touch with your goals.

Then when you break your resolutions in May, like we all do, you can jump right back in. Totally kidding! We are hoping you are the one to make it last!

3rd Party Gift Card Kingpin

The pharmacy stores sell a ton of 3rd party gift cards. If you have some there that you can maximize each month then this could be a win over a year. Maybe you have a renovation project that takes a lot of Home Depot or Lowe's spend etc. Getting 6x on all of that could be a pretty amazing return. Earning multiple welcome offers instead is the better return, but that isn't always possible / wanted. Take a peek at your store in the next few days and see if it makes sense before pulling the trigger.

Word Of Warning

Just a reminder that every time you earn bonus points you reset the 24 month clock with Chase with this offer. That means you wouldn't be eligible until 24 months from the end of this 12 month offer. It works the same way for the grocery offer listed below. You wouldn't be eligible until 24 months from the last time you earned the grocery bonus.

Best Ever Freedom Unlimited Bonus: ToP Thoughts

While this no doubt about it, the best ever Freedom Unlimited bonus, it doesn't mean it is the best for you. Maybe the $200 bonus, plus 5x on grocery spend, that comes via personal referrals is better (check that here). There is no shame in that. As I always say, you have to do what works for you. However, if you check one of the boxes listed above, or a number of ones I didn't even think of, then grabbing this before it goes away makes sense too.
