Barclays Approving Two Credit Cards
I have a weird one to share with you today. This gives me a little bit of Wells Fargo signing people up for fake accounts vibes, but way less shady. We have run into some people in the ToP Facebook Group having a weird experience on their Barclays application. It doesn't seem to be happening a ton, but we have at least a handful of data points of Barclays approving two credit cards on recent applications. Yes, they are different accounts, and are including two hard pulls. This is also a double whammy on their Chase 5/24 count, which stings if they were grabbing these cards while under. Let's take a look at what is going on with this uncalled for glitch.

ToggleWhat Is Happening
I didn't have Barclays approving two credit cards on my bingo card, but here we are. It appears to be a weird glitch in their system that hopefully they correct quickly. Here are three different instances we have seen reported in the ToP Facebook Group in detail.
Incident 1: From Group Member Li
Has anyone applied for a Barclays card and received two of the same card with different account numbers but the same credit limit? I opened a Barclays Hawaiian Mastercard and received two cards that are apparently separate accounts, both opened on the same day with the same credit limit but different card numbers. I believe I have two hard inquiries on my credit report, one from each account.
Incident 2: From Group Member Kimberly
Over the weekend I applied for Barclays Aviator AA card with 70000 miles SUB. The service where I was wasn’t the best but it went through and I was approved. I didn’t think much when I got two approval emails but I just checked my Barclays app and I now have two Aviator AA cards with two different account numbers. What are the chances that I’ll earn the sub on both?
Incident 3: From Group Member Joey
Applied for the 70k Barclays Aviator Red and was approved. However, I receieved two approval emails and after looking in my Barclays account, it reflects two different card accounts. I am also getting credit monitoring notifications of two new accounts and both are showing on my credit report. Anyone have this happen? Trying to decide between calling Barclays to get one removed or pushing my luck and hoping the SUB posts for both after the AF and one purchase.
There were others that commented in some of the posts that they had the same thing happen. It looks like the cards are coming in separate envelopes with their own unique account numbers. They are also both showing up on their Barclays login, but they seem to be approved for the same credit limit for each. This is resulting in two hard pulls as well, which means two 5/24 spots are taken.
This Could Be Pretty Good, Or Really Bad
What this means for you depends on where you are at in your journey. If you were over 5/24 then you likely don't care about the two slots being taken up, and you likely just received two really simple welcome offers. We won't know for sure for a month or so if both cards earned the bonus, but that is the working theory right now.
On the other side of things, if you were under 5/24 then this could potentially be devastating. Let's say you were 3/24 and fell for the FOMO and grabbed this card that we said could wait, then you may now be locked out of Chase for a good long while. That leaves you in a tough spot if there were still cards you were planning on getting while under 5/24. It stinks that it worked out this way, but that is why order of applications is so important, and why we stress it 500 times a day in the group.
Barclays Approving Two Credit Cards: ToP Thoughts
It seems like enough people are running into Barclays approving two credit cards from one application to be a trend. Strangely it isn't everyone though, which makes it a really weird glitch. I am not sure if it is spotty internet, it is a problem with certain devices being used or what. It is something to be aware of though. Especially if you were feeling that FOMO pressure and considering jumping the gun with the Aviator or Hawaiian personal cards. This is a potential outcome you should be aware of.
Let me know if this has happened to you as well over in the ToP Facebook Group.
