Thrifty Traveler Hotel Alerts

One of our favorite flight alert services is back with a major addition. You can now sign up for Thrifty Traveler Hotel Alerts. If you are unfamiliar with this service, or award alert services in general, read along for more. Suffice it to say, this is a service that is worth your time and money, and will likely only get better over time.

What Is Thrifty Traveler Premium?

Thrifty Traveler Premium is one of the biggest players in the award flight alert space. The Premium Service, which costs $99.99 per year, sends out flight alert emails and text messages for domestic and international economy, business and first class flights. These alerts include both cash fares, award flights, and mistake/error fares.

Now, new and existing members can add hotel alerts to their Premium subscription. This add-on service is $24.99** per year and is optional. You do not need to subscribe to Hotel Alerts if you have a Premium subscription, but the opposite is not true. You can only sign up for hotel alerts as an add-on to your Premium subscription.

**If you are an existing Premium subscriber, your add-on Hotel Alerts subscription is pro-rated for the remaining portion of your subscription term.

  • IHG
  • Marriott

For now, readers can expect 1-2 hotel deal alerts per week for the 4 above mentioned hotel chains. However, from Thrifty Travelers' press release, it appears it plans to expand this service in the near future.

From the release:

“While these Hotel Alerts are just getting started, we’ve already found and sent some fantastic deals to members, including:”While these Hotel Alerts are just getting started, we’ve already found and sent some fantastic deals to members, including:

  • Hard-to-find award availability at the dreamy Conrad Bora Bora Nui, bookable with Hilton points for a trip this summer or fall – peak season in French Polynesia.
  • Award nights through spring 2025 at the recently reflagged Luxury Hotel Collection Midtown Manhattan right when award space opened … bookable for just 34,000 Marriott Bonvoy points – a third of what it’s now charging!

Thrifty Traveler Hotel Alerts: ToP Thoughts

I enjoy the idea of email alerts for interesting hotel options, especially since the 4 main hotels for points & miles stays are included in these searches. I decided to sign up today and give it a whirl. However, it would be nice if members could set up alerts for specific properties and dates for existing travels. Also, it will be good to see if hotel alerts align with flight alerts. Random hotels coupled with random flights doesn't really align with most people's travel schedules. So either having the two align together or allowing members to set alerts for hotel stays to align with flights would be ideal. You can set specific hotel alerts with other services, which also come with subscriptions (one being MaxMyPoint). I cannot comment on any of those, as I have not signed up and used them.
