It is that time of year again, the time of year where everyone panics a little bit. After a few days of their Amex airline incidental credits not posting they start to wonder if the loopholes have all gone dry. What about that cell phone credit, do they not accept my wireless provider anymore? What is taking do dang long for these coupons to clear!? Have no fear, this is pretty typical of American Express. For some reason their wheels grind a bit slower at the end of the year. It also happens at the beginning of the year for that matter. Why? No one knows. You would think that the process would be automated, and exactly the same, no matter the time of the year, but here we are. So, how long do Amex credits take to post right now? Let's take a look.

Recent Data Points
Here are some recent data points I have to share from myself and from others that should answer the question how long do Amex credits take to post.
Business Platinum Wireless Credit
- Charge posted on November 23rd and credit posted on December 2nd – (9 days)
- In the previous month it took 3-4 days
Airline Incidental Credits
- Charge posted on November 17th and the credit posted on November 27th (10 days)
- My personal charge posted on November 28th and no credit has posted as of yet (8 days)
- In the previous month it took 3-4 days
Dell Credit
- Most recent example took 10 days.
- Was 4-5 days previously
Gold Business Flexible Business Credits
For some reason the Flexible Business credits are still posting within a day or two for the Business Gold card. There is no rhyme or reason why this new credit is posting quickly while the others lag, but I'll take one for three I guess.

Hopefully this puts worrying minds to rest a bit. There is nothing unusual about this end of the year slumber for Amex. Be prepared to see the panic posts early next year as well, it is cyclical after all.
If you were wondering how long do Amex credits take to post, this should give you a good timeline. I fully expect my airline incidental credit to post this Friday, on day 10, for example. If it goes a few days past that then maybe I will be ready to sound the alarm that Delta tricks are dead!
