Citi Double Cash Retention Offer
My buddy Ryan recently received a really interesting Citi Double Cash retention offer that I wanted to share with you. You may be doing a double take, since the Double Cash has no annual fee. You may be wondering why there be a retention offer on a card with no annual fee? It is not unheard of actually, as we have shared in the past with another card. Retention offers are actually one of the best things Citi does. That and their product change terms, although those took a bit of a hit recently. Let's take a look at this offer.

Here are the terms of the Citi Double Cash retention offer:
- Earn an extra 2x ThankYou Points (on top of the normal 2x) for 6 months
- Good for up to 35,000 points, or $17,500 in spend
Earning 4x ThankYou points (at least if you have a Citi Strata Premier card to pair with it) on every purchase over the next 6 months is pretty amazing. That is especially true with Ryan getting this offer right before he had to pay his tax bill. A perfect way to offset the fees of paying taxes with a credit card.
A Citi Strata Premier Retention Offer
He also reached out about a Citi Strata Premier retention offer while he was already on the call for the Double Cash. This is the great thing about Citi retention offers, they will go through all of your cards, one by one, while you are on the same phone call. It is a much more efficient way of doing it versus how other card issuers handle something similar. Here are the details of the offer he received on the card:
- Earn 10,000 ThankYou points after spending $3,000 within 6 months
This is a decent offer on a card that most people will keep long term. The Citi Strata Premier probably has the best earning structure for a sub $100 annual fee card. If ThankYou points were just a little bit better it would maybe compete with the Sapphire Preferred (and its increased offer right now). Maybe American Airlines is coming one of these days and they can watch their ThankYou star soar.
Citi Double Cash Retention Offer: ToP Thoughts
It is always worth asking for a retention offer on your cards, even if it is one you plan to keep long term – or comes with no annual fee. That is especially true with Citi credit cards. I would set a reminder to reach out and run through all of your Citi cards ever 6 months or so. This Citi Double Cash retention offer is one that I think many would be excited to get. It makes a great non bonus spend card even better, and 4x on everything is really tough to beat.
