Amex Is Sending Out Checks

If there is one thing I can say about Amex, it is that they eventually make things right. It may take 2 years, but they often catch their mistakes and send out the points, or money, that you are owed. The past week or two is more proof of just that, because Amex is sending out checks once again. We received 7 checks yesterday alone, totaling a little over $100. I am sure many of you have seen checks flowing in, or random credits on some of your cards. Is Amex sending out tardy birthday presents or what?

Amex Is Sending Out Checks

American Express Credits & Checks

It appears that Amex is sending out checks, and giving statement credits, because they done messed up in the past. More specifically, American Express didn't properly credit some accounts for certain card perks. All of our checks were for various Amex Business Platinum cards. This was likely from the wireless $10 monthly credit that you get with the card because of the $10 and $20 check amounts. We also saw some statement credits post on our active cards too.

I think that would be the difference between a credit and a check. If the account is still open then you should see the credit on your account. If you have closed the card then American Express will mail you a check for the money owed.

It looks like they added in reimbursement for any fees, interest charges and forfeited rewards that resulted from their error too. That is why all of ours were for weird amounts, and not just a flat $10 or $20 etc.

Amex Is Sending Out Checks: ToP Thoughts

This isn't the first, second or even third time that American Express has done something like this. Usually it is a random amount of points hitting your account though. This time around Amex is sending out checks for issues with statement credits from card perks. I am not sure if this only happened on Business Platinum cards or not. That is all I have personal experience with, but if you received a credit or check for a different card please let me know over in the ToP Facebook Group.
