American Airlines Leaving Bilt Rewards
Update 6/23/24: Final reminder that the the partnership ends tomorrow, June 24, 2024!
Just a few moments ago Gary at View from the Wing broke a pretty big story. He uncovered the fact that American Airlines is leaving Bilt Rewards in a few months. We don't know the exact end date, but they will be leaving the program at some point in June of this year. The silver lining is that you at least have a few months to transfer points if American Airlines is your day 1 choice for Bilt Rewards. It is also unlikely that they have a great transfer bonus for American Airlines anytime soon, if you had been holding onto your points hoping for one.
This is really the first negative news we have seen for Bilt Rewards. They have impressively continued to bolster their lineup of transfer partners ever since launching the program. Examples such as adding partners like Marriott and Lifemiles as recently as three months ago. They have also continued adding value to the program via status match promotions and the like.
American Airlines may sting as bigger loss for some, because they are not a transfer partner for any of the major bank currencies. The only way to earn their miles, outside of Bilt Rewards, are via their co-branded credit cards or via transferring Marriott Bonvoy points in.
