Aeroplan 40th Anniversary Promotions
Everyone loves a celebration, right? I know we all love promotions, too. So how about combining the two with Aeroplan 40th Anniversary Promotions? Win-win! We get to celebrate one of our favorite award programs and get some good deals along the way. Let's jump right in and see what's available.
Timing of the 40th Anniversary Promotions
Various portions of the promotions are available between July 8, 2024 and July 17, 2024. Generally, most of these offers are available today through July 17, 2024. Any exceptions are noted below.
Aeroplan 40th Anniversary Promotions List
There are various promotions available during this time. The promotions that run during the entire 10 day period include:
- Redeem 20,000 points or more on rental cars or hotels and receive 20% of your points back. Book by July 17, 2024 for travel through December 31, 2024.
- Get 40% more bonus points when transferring Accor ALL points to Aeroplan through July 17, 2024.
- Earn 4x Bonus Points when buying $500 or more in Air Canada gift cards through July 17, 2024.
- Get 4x Bonus Points, plus up to 30% off base rates, when booking a rental car with Avis or Hertz by July 17, 2024 and rental completion by December 15, 2024. Use the below rate codes:
- AWD C682300 must be used to take advantage of the savings of up to 30% off Avis base rates
- Coupon MCAA003 – must be used to take advantage of the Avis bonus points.
- BCD A258200 must be used for savings of up to 30% off Budget base rates.
- Coupon MCAZ007– must be used to take advantage of the Budget bonus points.

Discount on Buying Points
While we regularly caution against buying points, it can make sense at the right time and place. We've written a guide when we recommend considering buying points. The Aeroplan 40th Anniversary Promotions is a time that just might make sense for you. From July 8, 2024 to July 11, 2024, Aeroplan members that purchase 60,000 or more Aeroplan points receive a 125% bonus. From July 12, 2024 to July 19, 2024, this bonus drops down to 100%.
With the 125% bonus, purchasing 60,000 Aeroplan miles nets you 135,000 total miles. This is a cost of $2,100 CAD, which is $1,540 at today's conversion rates. This equals 1.14 cents per point. For those that do math best with “what will it get me,” a business class flight on United from Washington, D.C. to London or Paris is 60,000 points when booked with Aeroplan. You can purchase these points for $684. Not too shabby.
Aeroplan Credit Card Promotions
So far we've see promotions for renting cars, using points on hotels or rental cars, and buying points. If you were holding your breath waiting for something credit card-related, you can exhale. Existing Chase Aeroplan® Mastercard holders earn 40% bonus points on all spend, up to $40,000, between July 14 and July 17, 2024. This means that existing credit cardholders earn 4.2x at restaurants and grocery stores and on Air Canada purchases and 1.4x on all other eligible spend. Although likely impossible to do, this bonus caps out at 168,000 Aeroplan miles for $40,000 spend during this 4 day period.

But what if you don't have the Aeroplan card? Today, we announced the new signup offer on the Chase Aeroplan® Card. From July 8, 2024 to July 17, 2024, new cardholders earn 70,000 Aeroplan miles after $3,000 spend in 3 months, with a $95 annual fee. Plus, new cardholders receive 40% bonus points on up to $40,000 spend in the first 40 days from your first transaction. Like existing cardholders above, this means you will earn 4.2x at restaurants, grocery stores and on Air Canada purchases and 1.4x on all other eligible spend and you have an extra 36 days to do so. Although very difficult to do, this bonus caps out at 238,000 Aeroplan miles for $40,000 spend in the first 40 days.
Aeroplan 40th Anniversary Promotions: ToP Thoughts
Whenever promotions arrive, we embrace them. Whether you think a particular promotion works for you, always keep an open mind and register for everything. Is buying a one-way business class flight to Europe for under $690 or using 20,000+ miles on hotels or rental cars for everyone? Absolutely not. However, in certain circumstances, any and all of these promotions are awesome.
On the credit card side of things, wow. Just wow. While existing cardholders only earn 1.4-4.2x for four days, new cardholders get this perk for 40 days, in addition to a nice signup bonus of 70,000 miles. If this card was on your radar, now is the best time to grab it.
