Add Alaska Booking To American

I recently needed to add an Alaska booking to my American account, and it wasn't the most intuitive process, so I figured I would share my experience with you. This is for the times when you use your Alaska miles to book an American Airlines flight. That has been a winning combination for Derrick as of late, and I found a great deal to South America doing the same thing. I may have mislead you a bit with the doing it online part of the headline. It is possible, but you will need help. I had figured it would be similar to the adding a Virgin Atlantic booking to your Delta account, but I was wrong there.

Why You Want To Do This

Before we get into how to add your Alaska booking to American, we should discuss why you want to do this. The first, and most universal reason, is that it makes things easier to track. If you are flying American Airlines then it is just easier to have all of the flight info etc. in your American Airlines account.

The other main reason people do it is to take advantage of any status they may have with the partner airline. Which is even better if that status is from a free match & challenge like mine is. When you get your flight added to your American Airlines account then it should trigger any upgrades or seat selection perks that you get. That is exactly how it works with Virgin Atlantic bookings on Delta too.

How To Add Your Alaska Airlines Booking To Your American Airlines Account

The process is fairly easy on adding your Alaska booking to your American account, but it does have a few steps:

Add Alaska Booking To American

First: Get Your American Airlines Confirmation Code From Your Alaska Booking

You will want to log into your Alaska Airlines account and check Trips. When you select your booking you will see a confirmation code for Alaska (the booking program) and American (the airline you are flying). You need the American Airlines confirmation number for the next step.

Second: Reach Out To American Airlines (Social Media Is Best)

Once you have your American Airlines confirmation code, from the Alaska booking, you will need to reach out to American to have the flight added to your account. I do this via Twitter / X direct message myself. They are usually fairly quick to respond and I don't have to wait on hold calling etc. I would imagine their other social media verticals would work, as well, if they have a presence there.

Third: Check Your American Airlines Account For The Flight

Once you get confirmation from the American Airlines team that they have updated the flight, and attached it to your AAdvantage account, you will want to double check it. Just log into your American Airlines account and go to the Manage Trips / Check In tab to make sure it is there.

ToP Thoughts

Hopefully this guide on how to add your Alaska booking to your American Airlines account helps you out in the future. While it isn't as self sufficient as the Delta & Virgin Atlantic partnership, it can still all be done online within a few minutes. You just need a little assist from the team over at American Airlines. This allows you to get your cake and get to eat it too, since you can get your American perks on the lower Alaska Airlines booking cost.
