World of Hyatt Business Credit Card Review

We at ToP often talk about the World of Hyatt program and how valuable it can be for award travelers. Recently, Chase launched the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card to complement the World of Hyatt Credit Card. How does the Hyatt Business card compare to the older personal card? We will cover the welcome offer, card benefits, earning structure, and give our overall thoughts in this World of Hyatt Business credit card review.

Welcome Offer

The World of Hyatt Business Credit Card currently has the following offer:

  • 60,000 Bonus Points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening.
  • The card has a $199 annual fee that is NOT waived during the first year.

Chase Application Rules

As with the World of Hyatt Credit Card, the Hyatt Business Credit Card is subject to Chase's 5/24 rule. This means Chase will not approve you for this card if you have opened 5 or more credit cards during the last 24 months, from any lender. That includes personal cards and some business cards. For more detail on the rule, be sure to check our complete 5/24 guide.

You also can not currently carry the card or have earned a welcome offer for this card in the last 24 months.  You can carry both the business version and personal version though.

World of Hyatt Business Credit Card Review: Earning Structure

The Hyatt Business Credit Card earns at the following rates:

  • 4 points per $1 spent at Hyatt (this is in addition to the 5 base points earned as a World of Hyatt member)

  • 1 point per dollar on all other eligible purchases

**Additionally, the card earns 2 Bonus Points per $1 spent in your top three spend categories each quarter.

. The following categories are included:

  • Dining
  • Airline tickets purchased directly with the airline

Card Benefits

The benefits of the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card revolve around Hyatt stays. Here is a list of some of the most notable ones:

  • Earn up to $100 in Hyatt statement credits per card anniversary year.
    • The credits come in two $50 increments per anniversary year.
  • Automatic World of Hyatt Discoverist status for as long as they hold the Hyatt Business card.
  • Cardholders can gift Discoverist status to up to 5 employees.
    • Interestingly, authorized users do not automatically receive Discoverist status. You must select the authorized user(s) to whom you will gift Discoverist status. Authorized users can be added for no fee.
  • Cardholders can earn 5 elite qualifying night credits for every $10,000 spent in a calendar year on the Hyatt Business card.
  • Get 10% of your redeemed points back when you spend at least $50,000 in a calendar year.
    • This is capped at 20,000 rebated points per calendar year
  • Member FDIC

ToP Analysis

The World of Hyatt Business Credit Card makes sense for high-spending Hyatt loyalists. The card's earn rate is pretty good for a co-branded hotel credit card. Earning 4x on Hyatt purchases is excellent, and better than what any other Chase card offers. In addition, earning 2x in your top two categories of spend each quarter is pretty creative. This earning structure provides good flexibility and doesn't require cardholders to keep track of rotating quarterly categories.

Card Benefits Are Lacking

The Hyatt Business card is less intriguing when it comes to card benefits, outside of status chasers. The $100 annual credit is easy to use and lowers the annual fee to $99. Beyond that, the benefits' appeal is pretty limited. The ability to earn 5 elite night credits for every $10,000 of spend is a good alternative for reaching Globalist status. Here, the Hyatt Business card outdoes the World of Hyatt Credit Card, which offers 2 elite night credits for every $5,000 spend. Still, this only benefits high spenders. And speaking of high spenders, Hyatt Business cardholders can receive a 10% point redemption bonus after spending at least $50,000 on the card during the calendar year. The cap of 20,000 rebated points is a little bit of a bummer, but is better than a category 1-4 free night certificate.

Meanwhile, gifting Discoverist status to up to 5 employees is an innovative perk. This benefit doesn't really help the primary cardholder directly though. Not to mention that Discoverist status isn't all that helpful, as it sits below Globalist and Explorist.

Park Hyatt DC

High Spender Sweet Spot

For a high-spending traveler who stays at Hyatt properties frequently, this card could be a good fit. The card handsomely rewards its cardholders for spending on the card. That said, the benefits are quite underwhelming if you don't care about elite status. It would be nice to see some type of certificate offered, whether a category 1-4 certificate or an upgrade certificate. After all, the World of Hyatt Credit Card includes a category 1-4 certificate, while still having a low annual fee of annual_fees, and gives you a chance to earn a second each year.

World of Hyatt Business Credit Card Review: ToP Thoughts

The World of Hyatt Business Credit Card benefits high spenders while offering very limited benefits and perks. With the current welcome offer, this card may make sense for the Hyatt loyalists. Beyond the first year, the Hyatt Business card mostly makes sense for those with a lot of cash stays at Hyatt properties or those who can put a lot of spend on the card. For those who don't expect to put much spend on the card, it is hard to justify keeping the Hyatt Business card around. It would be good to see Chase and Hyatt improve the card's benefits, such as with a free night certificate or at least some upgrade certificates.
