Should you throw your application plan to the wind and jump on this one? Here are the details of the World of Hyatt credit card 5 free nights offer:
- Earn 5 free nights at any Category 1-4 Hyatt hotel or resort after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. The certificates are good for:
- Category 4 hotels can cost from 12,000 – 15,000 – 18,000 points per night. The free night certificates really range in value from 3,500 – 18,000 since it all depends on how you use them.
- The $95 annual fee is NOT waived

Which Offer Is Better
On the surface the World of Hyatt credit card 5 free nights offer seems a lot better, and it will be for a lot of people. The downside to free night certificate offers is that they have a countdown clock on them. Plenty of people fall into the trap of signing up for these offers, because of the bright lights of the 5 nights, and then will panic last minute because they struggles to use them. Chase plays into this FOMO with the perfect ad of showing they are worth up to 90,000 points. That is true, if you use all 5 nights at a peak priced category 4 Hyatt. Chase and Hyatt know darn well that most people will not do that. Grabbing this just because it is an increased offer would be a mistake. You need to have a plan before diving in.
This isn't a decision I can clearly make for you either. So much will depend on your travel over the next 12 months and what kind of coverage Hyatt has there. Welcome offers that issue bonus points are much more clear cut, because you don't have a 12 month expiring clock to worry about. Having said that, what I can do is give you some pointers to help you decide what is the best option for you.
Hey Low Spender
Let's say that you have a limited amount of spend and would only chase the low end of the standard offer. Maybe you are more concerned with getting the card as a long term keeper before going over 5/24. The 5 elite night credits boost and the free night certificate each year make it well worth the annual fee for most after all.
In that case we are comparing $3,000 in spend for 30,000 points on the standard offer versus 5 free night certificates for $4,000 in spend. That would mean that you would need to get more than 30,000 points for those free night certificates. Most people should be able to do that after 3 nights, and it is even possible after 2 nights. That means that if you have any category 3 or 4 Hyatt travel planned that is 3 nights or more that would work for you, then the free night certificates are probably the way to go.
Hey Big Spender!
Let's say you are on the other end of the spectrum and plan on spending a lot of money on the card for the $15K free night certificate spend, or just to rack up the elite night credits. That makes things a little more interesting. Now the second part of the standard welcome offer comes into play, which would net you an additional 15,000 points with the extra point per dollar. That brings you up to 45,000 points in total from the offer.
It would take most people 3-4 nights to surpass that level of points, assuming you are staying at the high end of the spectrum here. If you have that kind of planned travel then the free night certificates are the way to go.
Don't Chase The Dragon
The other thing to consider with these offers is that they have us chase the dragon a bit. We start looking to travel to maximize the certificates versus just traveling where, and how, we want. That can lead to unexpected positive experiences no doubt, but it can also lead to feelings of regret and of a wasted trip at times.
If these free night certificates line up with your travels already, and they will bring you more than 30K or 45K in value, then go for it. If you will have to gameplan an entire vacation just to use them, then this probably isn't for you. Especially if you normally stay exclusively at top tier properties, like category 5 and above.
Don't Jump The Shark For This Offer
The last words of wisdom I want to whisper into your ear, or is it hit you in the eye with(?), is to not blow up your application plans for this offer. If you had planned on grabbing the World of Hyatt card anyway, and have the slots still open, then go for it.
However, if you are at 3/24 or 4/24, and you still had some things you needed to grab before going over, don't fall into the FOMO trap here. Doing so could cost you a lot more than a potential shot at an extra 45,000 points. For example, the Ink Unlimited has a 90K offer right now with almost the same amount of spend. Since the offer is for points that work at Hyatt, and tons of other places, it is much more valuable than this one. If grabbing the Hyatt free night certificate offer costs you a shot at something like that, you will regret it.

As with most things in miles and points, so much depends on your future travels and what your current credit card lineup is. For some, this offer will line up perfectly with their needs and offer them substantially more value versus the standard offer. For others, they will regret grabbing this as the clock counts down to zero and may have cost themselves hundreds of thousands of points elsewhere in the process.
